Wu Mei, or Dark Plum Fruit, is the processed unripe fruit of Prunus mume, a species in the Rosaceae family. Through steaming, smoking, and drying, the fruit becomes dark, soft, and deeply sour in taste. Revered in Traditional Chinese Medicine for its ability to astringe the lungs and intestines, stop chronic cough and diarrhea, generate fluids, calm roundworm-induced pain, and secure deficiency leakage, Wu Mei is widely used in respiratory and gastrointestinal support, parasite treatment, and fatigue-related conditions, and is a traditional base for Sour Plum Soup (Suan Mei Tang).
