Jiao Mai Ya, or Charred Malt, is the toasted germinated grain of Hordeum vulgare (barley), traditionally used in TCM to aid digestion, harmonize the stomach, move Qi, and reduce food stagnation and milk secretion. Compared to raw malt (Sheng Mai Ya), charred malt has enhanced digestive properties and a gentler, warmer nature, making it ideal for addressing postpartum breast distension, food retention in children, bloating, and indigestion from Spleen deficiency.
