Dong Gua Zi, or Winter Melon Seed (Semen Benincasae), is the dried mature seed of the wax gourd (Benincasa hispida). Cool in nature and sweet in taste, it enters the lung and intestinal meridians. Traditionally used in TCM to clear heat, resolve phlegm, drain pus, and soothe the lungs, it is especially effective for phlegm-heat coughs, lung abscess, intestinal abscess, and damp-heat conditions.
